Welcome to Science Frosh 09! My name is Maya and I am your SciFrosh Co-Chair. As the Co-Chair along with Sumo, we are like the Supermans of the Justice League that is the SciFrosh Committee. We lead and support the other committee members in designing an awesome Frosh program. I am a fourth year Microbiology and Immunology student. Some things I enjoy, apart from studying germs, are skating, rollerblading, and working hard to make sure that SciFrosh is the most memorable and inspiring part of your first year at UBC. You won’t be disappointed! I am super excited to meet you all, don’t be shy! There are many good friends to be made! |

As one of the volunteer coordinators, I help to select, train, and organize all the great student volunteers who will be your Frosh leaders and activity organizers. I just graduated this year with my BSc majoring in Animal Biology (and minoring in Commerce), and will be starting my MD undergraduate degree at UBC Med this fall. During the school year, I can usually be found working at the Chapman Learning Commons info desk, answering any and all questions students might have about the library or other UBC resources (feel free to drop by!) Outside of school, I game (Wii!), play sports (roller-hockey, vball and tennis), and of course, watch TV. A lot of TV…at least 80% of all the primetime shows out there…yeah…between TV and fantasy hockey pools, it’s a wonder I spend any time studying at all. Anyways, I look forward to meeting all of you! |

Hello! My name is Leanne and I am one of the Events and Logistics Coordinators this year for Science Frosh 2009! I am an incoming 4th year Science student pursuing a degree in Statistics, with a minor in Economics. I have been involved with SUS in the past year as the Math and Statistics Department Rep. My job was to act as a liaison between the Department Heads and SUS to discuss issues and ways of improvement for the betterment of students in my respective departments. In my spare time I like to attend SUS events (who wouldn’t want attend a party held by SUS?), sing karaoke, try new restaurants and read fashion blogs. As an aside, I also like candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach… seriously.

WOOOOO SCIENCE FROSH!!! Are you ready for a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget? As you are all SCIENCE students, I have no doubt in my mind that you are ready for this amazing event that will stick with you throughout your crazy adventure through science. My name is Fahim Kara and I am your Social Coordinator for SciFrosh 2009. My role is to help run the morning activities and organize the evening activity, which is.........wait for it.........a BOAT CRUISE. This is no ordinary boat cruise as we will be performing science experiments and dissections on the boat. Don’t forget to bring your safety goggles and lab coats with you. Haha I’m just kidding! I just finished my second year of science and I’m currently pursuing the human kinetics portion of science. In my spare time I like to play soccer and hockey, explore the outdoors, and be a diehard Canucks Fan! I look forward to meeting each and everyone of you and spending one of the most memorable days of your UBC SCIENCE journey with you! |

Hi Froshees! My name is Anas Salloum, and I am the sponsorship coordinator for the Science Undergraduate Society here at UBC. Essentially, what I do is acquire sponsors for several of our events, including Frosh. I communicate with them, inform them of opportunities we can provide, and request their sponsorship in return. This involves tons of emails and letters--not to mention managing and organizing all of these!--as well as a decent amount of time on the phone and visiting businesses. After I acquire these resources, I organize everything and distribute them accordingly. For Frosh, I will be securing the funding necessary for several of the day’s events, the products used throughout the day (including food and drinks) as well as some exciting prizes for the scavenger hunt! I will do my best to make Frosh the most memorable day of your undergraduate years at UBC! |
